"I didn’t ask for this crown, but I wear it better than those who did. I am not their hope. I am their reckoning. Forged in ruin. And when I rise, no Oak, no master, or any lords of the forest will command me."

They found him where no life should stir—beneath the ruins of A’therak, the dead city of the Ancient Oaks. Nothing sane dares wander there. Yet in that hollowed silence, beneath crumbled stone and twisted roots, lay an infant—naked, silent, staring skyward, as if listening to voices only he could hear.

He did not speak. He still rarely does. But at night, his silence breaks. In dreams, he sees her—an Oak of impossible beauty, warm and ancient. Her face always fades. Her name always slips away. Yet what remains is unmistakable: sorrow… and power.

They named him Shaec, for the earth itself seemed to bend beneath him. Within weeks, he grew—not like a child, but like something returning to its true shape. By the third moon, his youth was gone. In his place stood a towering figure, larger than any Rheyn, broader than any Oji, silent as a forgotten god. Some whispered he hadn’t grown at all—he had remembered.

He did not rage. He did not beg for loyalty. He simply existed—immovable, inevitable. He walked among mortals like a relic that had never truly left.

To the desperate Rheyns, he became a prophecy given form. They called him salvation, heir to a broken legacy. He did not seek to rule—he was begged to. And once he accepted, kingdoms began to tremble.

Shaec carries no crown, only presence. No speech, only gravity. He is not a Rheyn trying to become an Oak. He is an Oak… still pretending he’s not.

And the world, blind in its yearning, has no idea what it just awakened.t masters, is about to remember what it means to kneel.
